Higher education is too expensive
Written @ 2:44 a.m. on July 18, 2003

Well I have been busy doing one of my new favorite things, which is daydreaming about colleges after getting applications in the mail.

Then I realize, holy crap, I could quit daydreaming and actually go. Like maybe even early next year. Then I realize next year is not so far away. I am jazzed.

I have even picked out (mostly) where I want to go. The university of tennessee Kn0xville sounds just about perfect. I know the area and love it, my Dad is buried down there so I'll get to visit his grave and keep it neat as well, I like the courses they offer. It's far enough away from family to make my own fresh start in life. Because everyone's got to live their own life, don't ya know.

The only problem is the money. After four years it would be about $80,000.

*Twitch*

So I've got some things to think about. I could go to OSU, which is closer, $40,000 cheaper, still in an area I sort of like and know like the back of my hand, has all the majors I want, but is so close to home that Mom would want me to live with her and commute. The thing is I don't want to do that. I want to live either in the dorms or share a house rental.

It's crazy. All signs point to OSU but for some reason I really want to go to UTK. Hmmm. Tricky situation. Definitely requires much thought.

I feel really good. I think I'm back losing more weight too. I looked in a mirror today and I looked so tall and so much thinner to me. I found out at the doctors that I am 5'4 1/2. I'm practically a super model, baby. That half inch is a total confidence booster. I used to feel bad being so much taller than my Mom, now its something I'm proud of. I've stopped slouching to hide my height.

My little brother is doing quite well. He's doing all sorts of crazy give-his-sister-a-heart-attack stunts on his bike, skateboard and scooter. He's actually pretty good. He's also begging to be signed up for soccer, so I figured I'd help dig up the $70.00 to let him try it.

Do you know how much a Single parent family ymca pass is these days? Almost $600.00! That's just crazy. Would you pay that much for a membership?

We toured the brand new facility just down the street from us. It looks great, and there are many different programs you can do for free with your membership. They even have yoga and pilates classes for about $20.00 extra. They've got a climbing wall, basketball court, exercise class room, fitness and exersize equipment room, and two pools. The indoor one has a twisty slide and one shallow side for water aerobics classes and kids. It sounds great, but $600.00?? Ouch.

Well, I am tired. It is time for bed, yo.

'Night.
